Below we are going into some of the most asked general questions by our customers regarding the Blundstones boots and hope the answers will help you with your decision on the next Blundstone pair or other boots from WorkwearHub.com.au.
Q: Are Blundstones good for walking and hiking?
A: Blundstrones are built to be long-lasting and sturdy to get you through gruelling hours-long journeys. While they are not your professional hiking boots, they would definitely do the job of any shorter hike preferably in dry and warm conditions. So, what we are saying is that, while you can wear Blundstones on a multitude of hikes in a variety of terrains and conditions, they are not designed as your regular hiking boot. Depending on what model of Blundstone boots you are looking at, their hiking features vary quite significantly.
Summarising:
Pros for hiking
- Quality construction
- Water resistant leather
- Cushioned midsole
- Robust outsoles
- If urban trail hiking is all you do – the Blundstones, while definitely not the very best option, will most likely do the job
- Depending on how core the trail you want to challenge is – Blundstone might save you from specifically buying hiking boots
Cons for hiking
- Compared to a professional hiking boot, Blundstones generally speaking provide a lower arch and less ankle support for long hikes
- It can be argued that the way how they are built, they would provide a lower breathability function compared to your purposely designed hiking boots
- While we love the look and ease of the elastic side’s functionality, there is a compromise when it comes to support, so we would definitely advise to go for a laced-up version opposed to elastic sided Blundstone models for hiking
- An argumentation point is that a lot of the slip-on models navigate towards a slimmer fit, that comes naturally with thin outsoles and therefore a weaker traction is provided
Q: How good are Blundstone boots for your feet?
A: To answer that question we will go into a couple of components:
- Shock Protection System: Extreme impact technology that provide ultimate protection and support. They absorb 90% of energy at high-speed impact and are designed to reduce fatigue, lower back, legs and feet, basically all your most common orthopaedic problems
- Breathable Upper Materials - Blundstone boots are breathable, protective and supportive, especially when it comes to their work and safety boots. These features combined provides all necessary factors for good foot health and prevents actively issues such as blisters and pressure points after a long day at the work site. In addition, having the main component of the boot leather, it will naturally shape to the foot, lets the foot breath and is easily treated to provide water resistance
- Quality Lining - The quality lining used by Blundstone is designed to keep your feet comfortable by absorbing heat in hot conditions and keeping your feet cosy and warm when used in cold environments. Insole and linings are anti-bacterial, quick drying and breathable so that you stay comfortable in no matter what situation
- Footbeds - Blundstone footbeds are washable, breathable and can be easily be replaced. Most of Blundstone footbeds have airflow and moisture wicking system and are made from soft polyurethane, and are covered with a full-length cushion of foam polyurethane, which is topped by a long wearing mesh cover.
Q: Are Blundstones made of real leather?
A: The majority of Blundstone work and safety boots are made from high quality leather. The leather is treated to be as water- repellent as leather can be while maintaining the breathability. Now to maintain the leather and water-repellence we have here at WorkwearHub a couple of tips:
- If your boots get wet, we would advise you to stuff them with newspaper so that the moisture is absorbed as soon as possible so the boots keep their shape. Please do not use any heat source, instead just leave them at room temperature to dry.
- The best way to clean your dirty Blunnies is to use water. Remove all dust and dirt from your boots by using a soft bristled brush and apply water and wipe it with a lint-free froth. Once they are wiped clean – leave them at room temperature as just mentioned before to fully dry.
- Use a renovating leather cream offered in black, brown and rustic by Blundstone for your leather Blundstones. The cream will help maintaining the color and finish of your boot. Make sure the cream is only applied once the boots are clean and dry. Once applied, use a clean cloth or an old (but clean 😊) sock to spread the cream evenly over the surface of your leather boot. Once done, wipe off any residue and allow the boot to dry. The last step is to buff with cloth or high gloss shine to make them shiny like they have just arrived from Workwearhub.com.au.
- The last point we get questioned about a lot is how to waterproof your leather Blundstone boots? We recommend using the Blundstone Waterproof spray. Before applying it is advised to shake the spray and apply it to your boot from a 15cm distance. A second application may be necessary on older or more porous leather. Make sure you allow at least one hour between applications, and then ensure that the application has completely dried. The Blundstone waterproof spray can be used independent of any other conditioner or cream. It is suitable to be used on canvas, nubuck and canvas, but please make sure you test it first on an inconspicuous area prior applying it to the entire boot. We here at WorkwearHub recommend to condition your boots every 3 – 6 months, depending on your specific use.
